Oh no!

One of my work mates doesn’t fall in the average Indian women’s height range of 5′ 1″ to 5′ 4″. She stands out unusually at 5′ 8″ especially when accompanied by us (we’re about 5′ 4″).

One guy on the floor started noticing her as he is quite tall himself at 6′ (again the average height of an Indian male is quite low). He got into a habit of looking out for her in the mornings or during lunch breaks as he sat in front of his computer. He thought he fancied her.

He started searching for her in Facebook. He went through the friends lists… his friends from work. He found her after trawling through multiple profile. She wasn’t an active user. She had just created a profile, uploaded a pic from her wedding reception and left it at that.

He saw the pic of her with a guy’s hand embracing her shoulder, facing the camera. In spite of the evidence, he refused to believe she was in a committed relationship or was married.

He continued to glimpse her from a distance or from his seat. He didn’t share his feelings with anyone either.

One day, he was standing among his team mates when she passed him. He saw her from head to toes. Not just her upper torso. Imagine his dismay when he saw that she was heavily pregnant.

The evidence before his eyes wouldn’t allow his brain to come up with further excuses. This was one girl with a NOT AVAILABLE board that couldn’t be more in your face!

He couldn’t help himself. He broke his vow of silence and shared this story with his mates from work. There was one who knew her and me. Eventually, I got to hear the story and naturally it reached my friend’s ears after she returned from leave.

The guy is now married and doesn’t talk to me. I suspect he suspects I’ve told her. He avoids talking to me now. Probably embarrassed for revealing too much. But he doesn’t know she doesn’t know his identity. I’m not telling her, his friends aren’t telling her. However, it’s a good story for a laugh when no one is hurt.
